ACM CTF: A HIGH-INTENSITY CYBERSECURITY CHALLENGE

The ACM Student Chapter at R.V. College of Engineering successfully conducted ACM CTF on March 25, 2026, at the Design Thinking Huddle. The event brought together students for an immersive Capture The Flag (CTF) competition aimed at enhancing problem-solving skills and technical expertise across diverse cybersecurity domains.

Designed to simulate real-world cybersecurity scenarios, the competition provided participants with a fast-paced and challenging environment. It served as an excellent platform for students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations while gaining exposure to industry-relevant problem-solving approaches.

Event Overview

Participants were introduced to the CTF format, where individuals or teams solve technical challenges to uncover hidden “flags.” The competition featured a broad spectrum of domains, including web exploitation, cryptography, reverse engineering, digital forensics, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and networking. This wide coverage ensured that participants explored multiple facets of cybersecurity while strengthening both conceptual clarity and hands-on skills.

Hands-On Learning Experience

One of the defining aspects of ACM CTF was its hands-on, high-intensity format. Conducted over a 4-hour challenge window, the event required participants to think critically and perform under time constraints. Students engaged in tasks such as identifying vulnerabilities in web applications, decoding encrypted messages, reverse engineering binaries, analyzing forensic data, and gathering intelligence through OSINT techniques.

This practical exposure helped participants understand real-world workflows in cybersecurity and encouraged a structured and analytical approach to solving complex problems.

Competitive and Engaging Environment

The event featured a dynamic setup that enhanced engagement and competition. A real-time leaderboard kept participants motivated, while progressive difficulty levels allowed teams to strategically select challenges based on their strengths. Collaboration, peer learning, and quick adaptation were key elements throughout the competition, creating an intellectually stimulating atmosphere.

Participation and Winners

The ACM CTF witnessed enthusiastic participation from students with varied interests in cybersecurity and technology. Participants demonstrated strong analytical thinking, teamwork, and persistence.

Top-performing teams were:

  • 1st Place: NooglersByte (6870 points)
  • 2nd Place: NoobProMax (6200 points)
  • 3rd Place: Debuggers (5150 points)

Their performances reflected consistency, strategic thinking, and technical depth across multiple domains.

Junior Core Team Milestone

A significant highlight of the event was that it marked the first major initiative led by the Junior Core Team of ACM RVCE. Their effective planning and seamless execution showcased strong coordination, dedication, and enthusiasm in contributing to the club’s technical ecosystem.

Conclusion

ACM CTF 2026 successfully blended competition, collaboration, and experiential learning into a single impactful event. By exposing participants to real-world cybersecurity challenges, the event reinforced ACM RVCE’s commitment to hands-on learning, innovation, and technical excellence. It also inspired students to further explore cybersecurity and ethical hacking, making it a valuable addition to the club’s growing portfolio of technical initiatives.
